Youths Still Dying in Florida Juvenile Detention Centers from Abuse, Neglect – Prison Legal News
After the 2015 death of a juvenile, authorities discovered that correctional officers were placing bounties on youths incarcerated in their facilities. Elord Revolte, 17,was transported to the hospital after being beaten by 15 to 20 inmates. He died before reaching the medical facility. A reporter for The Miami Herald later discovered that COs had asked other inmates to attack Revolte in exchange for honey buns. After interviews with other inmates, over 15 youths exposed the fact that COs often offer sweets and fast food to attack inmates who anger or annoy them. Read more.
