Volunteers Needed: Prosecution Alternative for Youth (PAY)
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Prosecution Alternative for Youth (PAY), a 90-day pre-trial diversion program for first-time juvenile offenders, is currently in need of additional Volunteer Hearing Officers to assist in Teen Court or with our Juvenile Alternative Services Program (JASP).
PAY’s goal is to assign meaningful sanctions to each child that will allow them to learn from their mistakes while holding them accountable for their actions. PAY is unique because it allows the community to get involved in shaping a young person’s life and supporting parents during a very difficult time.
Our Volunteer Hearing Officers are responsible for conducting hearings between the child, parent and sometimes the victim. The volunteer assigns the most appropriate sanctions to help the child. Our next 8-week Volunteer Hearing Officer class is scheduled to start in March. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and older, and background checks are required before training.
