Placing juveniles offenders in correctional institutions can lead to an increase in their chances of recidivism rather than decreasing future criminal behavior. A recent study of 600 serious juvenile offenders found that the more intense and strict the juvenile institution, the worse off the juveniles were when they were released and the more likely they were to commit more crimes.
