Orange County Leads Florida in Juvenile Arrests – The Orlando Sentinel

In Florida, juvenile arrests are at a four-decade low. However, arrests in Orange County are at their highest—leading any other county in the state. Orange County arrested 38 percent more juveniles in 2016 than Miami-Dade County, which is twice as big population-wise. This may be because Orange County police are arresting children rather than following the current Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) policy of issuing civil citations. In fact, Orange County police only issued civil citations to 39 percent of the underage offenders they came into contact with—compared to 94 percent in Miami-Dade County. Read more.
