DEADLINE: Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Applications for Youth Academy
This exciting and interactive week-long Academy is designed to educate youth in our community about current safety challenges, and provide them with an inside look at the programs, training, and technology used by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. There are no physical requirements and it’s a free course taught by members of the Sheriff’s Office leadership team, deputy sheriffs, investigators, and other agency staff.
2017 Academy dates
The Sheriff’s Office is hosting three identical deliveries of the Youth Academy this summer. We are unable to accept applications for all three.
- Monday June 12, 2017- Friday June 16, 2017
- Monday June 26, 2017- Friday June 30, 2017
- Monday July 17, 2017- Friday July 21, 2017
The Academy is scheduled from 8:30a.m.- 5:30p.m. each day. Youth participants will meet at the Sheriff’s Office Main Building located at 100 Eslinger Way in Sanford. Parents/guardians can drop off and sign their children in as early as 8:00a.m. and we ask that your children be picked up and signed out no later than 5:45p.m.
Please note: The 2017 Youth Academy Applications will close when then Sheriff’s Office has filled the class, which usually occurs within one to two days, so apply as soon as the application opens! Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis as seats are limited.
Application Process and Criteria
The Youth Academy is open to youth who will be entering grade 6, 7 or 8 and are between 11 and 13 years of age. Applicants must also reside in Seminole County or attend school (or be home schooled) in Seminole County. In order to be accepted, youth may not have a criminal record.
Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis as seats are limited. A background check will be conducted on the applicant and his/her parents/guardians. The numbers of seats available to family members of employees are strictly limited. All applicants will be notified via email by Friday, May 12, 2017.
